Proposed chapter scope: Core supervised ML workflow with tidymodels: train/test splits, cross-validation, model fitting, and evaluation. Given the limited number of compelling non-text SML use cases in social science, examples may lean toward text or image data — or this chapter introduces the framework with a simple tabular case before later chapters apply it to text. Link with statistics and difference between prediction and understanding is explicated.
